We are pleased to announce the fifth annual Patient Advocacy Leadership Awards (PAL Awards) program for non-profit patient organizations that serve the lysosomal storage disorder (LSD) patient community. The PAL Awards program supports innovative collaborations in disease awareness programs and patient support initiatives around the world through a competitive grants process.
What’s new this year? Two things. First, we have listened to feedback from patient groups around the world and we are delighted to announce that proposals can now be submitted in any language. We hope this will enable even more organizations to participate in this exciting grant program. Second, the focus of the PAL program this year is on collaboration. That means that only projects that involve a collaboration of two or more organizations will be accepted. The ability to collaborate with other organizations in a meaningful way is essential to long term progress towards achieving shared goals. The PAL Awards program seeks to support efforts that make a meaningful difference, thus the focus on collaborative projects is a natural evolution of the program.
Since 2011, more than $400,000 has been awarded to 37 patient organizations around the world to support disease awareness, community mobilization, non-profit development and good governance activities. We are delighted that Genzyme’s support through the PAL Awards has provided the seed funding for many successful innovative programs that benefit the LSD community.
